The Unclear Doctrines By Erik Theonnes

This essay highlights two doctrines that have been discussed by Erik Theonnes that are unclear to me.  Doctrines are meant to equip people in fulfilling their main purposes on earth which is   to delight and glorify in God the Almighty, through deeply understanding who God is.  Theonnes presents the doctrine on essential vs. peripheral (Theonnes, 2011, p 32). This is one of the doctrines that I have not well understood because the author indicates that the relative importance of a given belief can be analyzed through absolutes, opinions, convictions, and questions.

My problem is that even though the four aspects are used in  questioning are used in discerning a belief, the human heart and mind can choose to belief what it wants. We have seen people having a general consensus of a given negative doctrine based on their convictions questions, opinions and absolutes. This therefore, presents the question on how then will it is possible to discern rightly on the differences between matters that are under disputes.

Another doctrine which is unclear to me from Theonnes book is on Understanding God’s perspective.  The author writes that through understanding of God, greatest problems in life will be avoided. My question is how can man understand the perspective of God?  Also, what will one do in order to know God?  Through having the correct knowledge of God, how will I be able to establish a meaningful relationship with Him? I know that having knowledge of which God is an important aspect to by Devotion in the Lord, without this knowledge my devotion is just like dead orthodoxy. These are the two major doctrines that I did not well understand in Theonne’s book, Life Biggest questions.
