Understanding and Promoting Human Care for Nature

The scientific study of the direct connection between humans and nature with particular interest on promotion of environmental conservation is referred to as conservation psychology. There is a diverse connection between psychology and environmental conservation. Ecological processes meant to support life are greatly affected by the rapid population growth and human activities. It is also unfortunate that more than half of the services provided by the ecosystem are unsustainably used. Hence, there are various complexities associated with the set of values that improve the biosphere as well as its population and promoting the quality of life. According to Clayton and Myers (2008), this marks the start of an explanation relating to the link between the environment and psychology.

There are several environmental problems existing globally and according to Clayton and Meyers (2008), these problems result from the behavioral choices made by human beings, and solving them would need transformations in human behavioral patterns (Clayton, 2009, pp2). It is evident that there is a continual connection between the field of psychology and environmental conservation due to the fact that human behaviors are greatly influenced by the environment and vice versa. In order to make progress and advance in environmental conservation measures, it is recommendable for researchers to work collaboratively in comprehending people as well as their surrounding. It is therefore evident that conservation psychology entails a group of practitioners and researchers working in partnership to enhance a pleasant and sustainable connection between human beings and the environment (Clayton, 2009).

There are various aspects associated with psychology and some of the aspects include the study of human behavior, the brain and the mind. Similarly, the field of psychology may entail the study and comprehension of human behavior as well as the promotion of human well-being. The key to promoting human welfare and well-being is environmental conservation or preservation. The effects of different human behaviors vary depending on the settings under which the subjects are at a given time period. The various changes that can be experienced by human beings include population growth, climate changes, environmental changes and even the landscape changes.

The changes mentioned affect the social behaviors of human beings in one way or another. For example the change of climate from hot to cold may affect human behavior and their way of life. Hence, there is an indirect as well as a direct link between human welfare and the environment (Clayton, 2009).The other example is that environmental issues such as overpopulation and global warming affect the entire human population. Moreover, communication and interaction between human beings in different environmental settings has a natural effect of promoting emotional well-being and reducing stress levels (Clayton, 2009, pp3).
