According to western civilization, the term western implies many things, freedom and free participation in political institutions, economic initiatives and opportunity, monotheistic religious faiths (Judaism, Christianity and Islam). The west has felt free to both evoke tradition as it is guiding light and to innovate brilliantly; to accommodate slavery and freed simultaneously to esteem original thought and to prosecute people who deviate from norm dating back in 16th century.

In late antiquity, the Roman West had been divided among several German kingdoms. That did not confront more powerful neighbors, that experience of religious harmony and also that had room to expand and managed to succeed.

Early in the middle of 8th century, the Europe continent was dominated by a single family, ‘Carolingian’. Charles the Great had a dynasty to unite France, the law countries, most of German, northern Italy and Spain into a single empire and to his believe he became successful in uniting but the empire lasted for few generations. After Charles was crowned the emperor, the Carolingians imposed standards of worship, education, law and institutions throughout Christendom.

In Britain, German Anglo-Saxons jolted with local Celts especially in the Wales and Scotland. The continent of Europe was then attacked by the Vikings, Muslims who attacked from the south and the Magyars who are mainly believed as the ancestors of Hungarians. They attacked from the east of the continent. The Carolingian empire weakened slowly due to the attack by these groups and afterwards they were completely weakened when the Charles’ descendants succumbed to the smaller political entities.

This made social and political development to be creative for more than two centuries. The powerful men in the continent referring to themselves as lords forced the lesser men into bonds of dependence that we usually call feudalism. Vassals, the lesser men pledged honor, felity, and dedication to services while the powerful men promised to maintain and to offer protection to the Vassals. Between the collapse of Carolingian empire around 900 and the renewal of the central authority around 1150, Europe experienced effective government only at the local level.

However since the holy roman emperors were catholic and most northern Germany rulers were protestant. There came the religious divisions further which worsened old antagonism and generated new ones. The protestant reformation did not dramatically alter the roles of women in European society or in the Christian churches. Ambivalence though marked the women’s participation in the Christian religion.

There is no word that defined civilization but it collectively meant cities. Cities are crucial since they require complex social organization that involves division of labor. Some people work in the fields and others at homes. Soldiers on the other hand defend the city and the artisans provide handicraft goods. Civilization emerged after 3500 B.C with slow population increase and predictable food supply (Thomas Noble 2008).

Robert Graves published a book in 1934 on life in Rome during the republican era which was steeped in intrigue, violence and unscrupulous morals as well as lust for greed and power in the reign of Claudius kingdom having many other species names that lived from 10 B.C to 54 A.D (Robert Graves 2010).
