The Whole Child Initiative

The Whole Child Initiative

The discussion of the whole child is vital in education today as it helps determine education system that are healthy, safe and challenging hence help children obtain their greatest potential. Schools must keep up with the changing society. Children do not have to learn the same  curriculum the same way. An effective education system must be able to satisfy the diverse needs and talents of the children. Children have potential and capabilities that need to be nurtured. An effective education should not suppress the children’s  potential, but allow it to grow.  Every child grows up with the belief that s/he can be anything s/he desires. Advocating for education that focuses on the provision of safe, health supported environment  requires the adoption of a new learning compact. The new learning compact emphasize on giving the children an opportunity to grow and become better.

The Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) dictates the following aspects when dealing with the whole child initiative. It advocates for asking questions, being heard, doing more and getting involved in the participation of the child’s education.  The adoption of the whole child initiative by early care and educational professional guarantees that schools do not bring down the curriculum standard in the early childhood setting.  An elaborate curriculum guarantees that the society mould children to become better people in the future. Whatever the children are exposed to when young mould their future. The future of the child will be a reflection of his or her exposure as a child. Joining the whole child initiative will allow one to become actively involved in molding the future of children through standard education.
