Yin And Yang

Yin and yang are the two opposing forces that make up all the phenomena’s in life. The two forces also complement each other (Corduan, 1998). The two forces represent the process of the universe. They also represent the content found in the universe. The concepts believe that the universe consists of opposite forces. That is negative or positive and male or female. The various forces are important in nature and they should be harmonized so as to enhance correct functioning. People using the concept assume that there is no personal God and that the forces should be balanced through mediation so as to promote spiritual wholeness. The concept of Yin and Yang has become common in the modern society. The concept influences medicine, religion and other aspects of Chinese people(Corduan, 1998).

They believe that one has to balance the two forces so as to survive. Chinese consider Yin to be female, passive and Yang to be a male and active. In addition, the Chinese consider Yin to be earth, absorbing and an even number and yang to be heaven, penetrating and an odd number. Thus, the two forces differ and they have to be balanced. Also, Yin is considered to be valleys and streams and tiger while Yang is considered to be mountains and dragons (Corduan, 1998).The concept of Yin and Yang helps one understand Chinese religion. This is because the Chinese have to consult nature as they believe there is no personal God. They have to balance the two forces and consult them so as to understand. Yin and Yang helps understand how Chinese worship (Corduan, 1998).
