Communication Skills Test
Communication is an integral part of an individual’s life. It is a process of sharing information from person to another. It is important for one to have appropriate communication skills. This will minimize the occurrence of misunderstandings and conflict (Nielsen, 2008). Effective communication skills enable one to process his or her thoughts, organize them in a sensible manner and express them in a sensible form. There are many risks associated with poor communication skills. First it hampers an individual’s ability to listen and learn.
A person with poor communication skills is inattentive and prefers to be heard and no listen. With poor communication skills an individuals may be unable to express him/her (Hargie, 2006). As a result those around her/him will not know what ideas/thoughts s/he had in mind. With poor expressions the individual risks missing out on opportunities in areas such as consideration for job promotions, formation of life long relationships etc. poor communication skills can also strain relationships at all spheres of one’s life. Personal relationships and work related relationships can be strained due to poor communication skills.
The Queendom communication skills test undertaken indicates that I am 88% insightful. This implies that I am able to perceive and clearly review and understand different scenarios that I encounter in my life. This also means that I am able to not only look into my own mental processes but also others. This is a strong and accurate evaluation of my communication skills. When I am holding a discussion or conversing with someone I strive to understand and listen to what they say.
I am also keen on the words I use. This is determined by whoever I am holding a conversation with. Whereas some terms may come off as offensive and insulting to others, they may be normal to others. I may therefore careful when conversing with different people ensuring that I do not offend any. It is also true that I try to fit into the shoes of the people I’m communicating with so as to understand them better. It also ensures that a proper environment is established so as to enhance communication.
One of the findings indicated that that I have good interpretation of others thoughts and will adjust myself so as to avoid confusion and uncomfortable situation. As much as this appears to be a positive attribute in many instances, it may work against me in instances where I desired to make a point. These skills may appear as a form of escapism where instead of facing a confrontational situation, I avert it by taking the side of the opponent. This semester I aspire to stand on my grounds and be more assertive on issues that I believe are true and valid (Hargie, 2006). This is regardless of an imminent confrontation. The ability to speak my mind regardless of what the majority view is will ensure that issues such as class discussions and assignments are properly and exhaustively completed.
It is risky to be constantly changing one’s stand so as to avoid a confrontation. Some people may use it to their advantage exploiting your urge to avoid confrontation. Adjustments with the aim of avoiding confusion or uncomfortable situation will only be made where necessary. This semester I will hard to only make adjustments to my decision and opinion only when an alternative suggestion is valid. If not, I expect to air my different view, engage in conversation and brain storming and reach amicable agreements with my colleagues as well as the instructors (Nielsen, 2008).
