 Chapter 1

 Introduction

Grants are funds that are disbursed by one party like a government, a corporation or any other company like a non profit organization. Most governments and organizations provide grants to people for various purposes. Before one gets a grant one has to present a proposal. Then the organization has to analyze the proposal, and grants the recipients a grant. Most grants are made to provide financial assistance to people carrying out specific projects as long as they comply with the requirements. Other organizations provide grants to start up small businesses and education. Most people are not aware any one can receive grant money. Only a small percentage of people understand how to get grant money from government organizations. Anyone can get free grant money, low interest government loans and start up grants for small businesses. People can also get grant money for vehicles. Most people have problems in starting up small businesses or improving their life. This is because they do not know where to get grant money from, and whether free grant money exists. Getting free grant money from government agencies and private organizations can change their life. Small businesses are the foundation for many communities, and the government realizes the need to fund the businesses so as to help people in the community. The main reason I am writing grant money 101 is to help people learn how to get grant money.

Problem statement

The main problem in accessing grant money is that people lack the knowledge on how to access grant money. In addition, people lack clear communication on where to get grants, who to assist them in getting grants, and how to get the grants. There are many government organizations offering grant money. The grant money is offered to start up small businesses and carry out major projects. In many countries like US, thousands of grants are being paid yearly with tax papers money (Heymans & Plummer, 2002). But, very few grant sources state where to get the grants, how to access the grants, and people who qualify for the grants. This makes it dificuity for people to access the grants. Lack of access to grant money has become a major concern for many years. Grant money 101 will explore the best places to get grant money. This information will help people knows how to access grant money and the requirements for accessing grant money (Heymans & Plummer, 2002).

Importance of the study

The significance of the study is to explore and share information about grants. The study will provide information to citizens on where grants are found in federal government and private sector. The study is important as most people in the society do not know where to find grants and how to apply. The study will guide the society in applying for grants to improve living standards in the society. The study will help solve the dilemma in grant money as people will get to know grant money is real and how to get it (Heymans & Plummer, 2002).

Research questions

Where to find grant money

People can get grants from the federal governments, and other agencies like non profit organization. The federal government offers various types of grants. For example, the government offers education grants for people wishing to continue with their studies. It also offers business start up grants for people wishing to start up new business or improve existing businesses (Heymans & Plummer, 2002). People can find grants from federal governments by viewing various sources. People need to access various sources like the government websites, the journals, articles, newspapers, and online services. The federal government places advert for grants on various sources like the internet, newspaper, and their websites. The government states clearly the type of grants it is offering, the qualifications, and how to access them. Most people do not utilize the sources so they do not have enough information on where to find grants.

Non profit organizations and other organizations also advertise grants in newspapers, their websites, and online sources. Moreover, the non profit organizations advertise their grants on journals and articles. This makes it easy for people to know more about the grants. To find the grants from the federal government and non profit organization one has to access the various information sources (Heymans & Plummer, 2002). One can log on to the websites of the federal government, and any other organization. This makes it easy to get clear information about the grants. The websites have detailed information about the grants. They contain information on the qualifications needed for the grants and the types of grants (Landskroner, 2001). In addition to visiting the organizations website, one can read news papers to access information about any grants advertised.

Newspapers have information about grants, but they don’t give detailed information about the grants like organizations websites (Heymans & Plummer, 2002). One can also view organization journals and articles to find grants from federal government and non profit organization. The above sources will make it easy for people to find grants from the federal government and non profit organizations (Landskroner, 2001). One can visit the places offering grants. There are various online sites that advertise information about government grants and non profit organization grants. The sites have detailed information about grants being offered like types, amount and qualification. People can still visit the online sites to find grants. For example, people can visit the American grant provider directory to view the list of foundations offering grants. There are many foundations offering grants in the directory. People can access the foundations online to find grants (Achilles &Brewe,2008).

Where to apply for grants from governments and private organizations

The federal government and private foundations are giving numerous amounts of grants. This is mainly to help citizens improve their living standards, pay medical bills, pay school fees etc. Any one can apply for the grants (Heymans & Plummer, 2002). To apply for the grants one has to visit an online grant database to identify the type of grant on needs. One can also visit the organizations websites and journals to identify the grants. There are various types of grants from which the client can choose from (Landskroner, 2001). There are education grants, business grants and medical grants and day care grants. One has to identify the type of grant that suits his needs. After identifying the type of grant one can apply for the grant online by filing a grant form or can apply for the grants manually(Heymans & Plummer, 2002). Most organizations provide online forms for the clients to fill. The form has all the details required to receive the grant. When applying for grant money, one can apply for any amount as long as the amount indicated is lawful and one meets the requirements. When applying for a grant one does not need credit checks, a collateral or security deposit (Heymans & Plummer, 2002). In addition, one does not need co signers. One can apply for a grant even if he is bankruptcy or has a bad credit. One should only meet the requirements of the federal government or private foundations. The main reason why people do not access grants is lack of clear information on how to apply the grants, but the above information will guide one wend applying for a grant.

Credentials required for grant money from government and private foundations.

There are various credentials required for grant money from government and private foundations. First, the recipient is required to submit a proposal. Grant writing is a vital process in receiving grants as it determines whether the recipient will receive a grant. The recipient of the grant should state the main idea or project. This is how the recipient is going to use the grant money (Achilles &Brewer, 2008).  The recipient should give a summary of the proposed idea or project. The summary should be detailed, and written well so as to attract the granter. The recipient should write a good grant proposal as there are many people writing grant proposals. Most granters use grant proposals to give grants to candidates who have qualified. Thus, the grant proposal should be good and written clearly. The government and private foundations require recipients to submit grant proposals so as to qualify for a grant (Achilles &Brewer, 2008).

Who qualifies for grants from governments and private foundations?

The granters’ determine the best candidate using the grant proposal. The recipient who has written the best proposal receives a grant from the government or private foundation. Thus, the person who qualifies for a grant from the government and private foundation is the person who presents the best grant proposal. For one to qualify for a grant from any organization he has to meet the requirements like writing a good grant proposal (Achilles &Brewer, 2008).

 Research design and methodology

Qualitative research method is a technique of inquiry that is used in many disciplines like social sciences. The method helps provide clear understanding of human behavior. It also provides information on the reasons that govern the behaviors. The qualitative method helps the research answer questions like how, why during decision making. It also provides answers to questions like when, where etc. The research method provides information on the case being studied. The qualitative research method will be used in the study. The qualitative research method wills the research to provide detailed description of the study (Browning, 2008). This is because the researcher will be able to study a given sample of the population to identify the problem of study. The qualitative research method will be used to study how people view grant money, and the problems they face when accessing grant money. The research method will help provide answers to questions like how to find grants, where to find grants, how to apply for grant money and how to get assistance when accessing grants.

The qualitative technique will make it easy to get information about the grant and answer the questions (Browning, 2008).Interviews and questioners will be used to collect data from the participants. The participants will be interviewed on grant money. The interviews used in the study will be structured interview and non structured interview. The two types of interviews will be used to ensure the participants give enough information for the study. Questioners will also be used to collect information from the participants. The questions will be structured to address questions in grant money liked how to access grant money, how to apply for grant money and where to access grant money and who qualifies for the grant money. The questioners and interview will give detailed information about the study (Browning, 2008).After collecting data, the data will be analyzed to give the results of the study. Results of the study show that most people have problems when accessing grant money, applying for grant money and knowing who qualifies for grant money. Other participants do not know where to find grant money. Lack of clear information about grant money has led to increase in poverty in the society (Browning, 2008).

Organization of the study

Various steps will be followed when carrying out the study. First, the researcher will identify the participants sand select people who will participate in the study. The participants should be selected well without any biasness. All genders should be presented when selecting participants (Browning, 2008).After selecting the participants the researcher will use questioners and interviews to collect data. Participants will answer questions related to the problem of study during the interviews. After the interview participants will answer questions in the questions. Then data collected will be analyzed using the right method. This is to get the right results for the study. The last step is interpreting the results (Browning, 2008).

Conclusion

The study carried out to identify problems in accessing grants shows that people have problems when accessing grants. Accessing grants has become a major problem in the country. This is because people do not know where to find grants, how to apply for the grants, and who qualifies for the grants. The study was aimed at identifying the problems in accessing grants and providing solutions. People are able to access grants from federal government websites, online databases, news papers, and journals. People can log on to the websites to find granters from federal government, and private foundations. Granters require the recipients to write a grant proposal, and the candidate who presents the best proposal gets the grant. Any one can apply for various types of grant like education grants, business grants and day care grants. When applying for a grant one does not require security deposit or to repay for the grant. People can use the above guidelines to apply for grants to improve their living standards. Thus, grant money is real.
