Leadership in Administration
Executive summary
In every organization, the managers should be leaders. Therefore, an organization’s management should be through leadership but not dictatorship way of management. Human resources are the most important resources that any organization has. Thus an organization has to ensure the best management of human resources and this can only be achieved through leadership. When leadership is employed in the administration of an organization, it will result to maximizing the output of human resources. In leadership in administration, the people are got to work by a reason and thus they are motivated. This will then ensure that the goals of the organization as well as those of its human resources are achieved.
Discussion
Leadership in administration means that the organization is able to cope with change. The world of business today is a dynamic world and thus there is increased competition. Therefore, to remain in business and increase an organization’s effectiveness and efficiency, there has to be leadership in its administration. This also ensures that the organization remains competitive in the changing environment of business. According to Shriberg & Shriberg (2009), change in an organization requires greater leadership. Where there is leadership in administration, decisions are made based on reason and that which needs to be done. In addition, a leader is able to create networks and good relationships between people and thus enabling easier accomplishment and attainment of the organization’s goals and objectives. Leadership in administration implies that there is planning, organizing, coordinating and controlling of the functions and resources of the organization for instance the human resources, funds, housing and other infrastructure.
Where there is leadership, there is increased responsiveness to the customers. Leadership in administration encourages the participation of all people in the organization. Therefore, the leaders do not impose rules on their subordinates but rather engage them in collective decision making. As a leader, one listens to the opinions and ideas of all people regardless of their position and/or social status. There is expected increase in responsibility since this makes every person accountable. Therefore, with the motivation that comes where people are guided by good leaders ensures that they work harder. In addition, the people will feel part of the decisions made and thus will be more willing to participate in their implementation. Leadership in administration also gives the human resources a sense of identity with the organization. However, leadership does not only apply to the human resources but rather to all operations of the organization. Therefore, it brings increased accountability. With these, the organization’s productivity will increase and will also ensure positive working towards attaining the organization’s goals.
Leadership in administration also faces some challenges. In many organizations, there is always the lack of trust between supervisors and their staff. Therefore, we need to find ways to enhance mutual trust and understanding among the members of the organization. For instance, we can reconcile personal goals of the employees with those of the organization. We also need to ensure an effective communication to all members in matters to do with the organization. With such, we will be able to enhance trust and thus work towards gaining a competitive advantage in the business world.
The CEO’s vision for success is that it is only through making greater sales that the organization will be able to achieve growth. To make greater sales, we should develop a culture of leadership in administration of all the areas of the organization. No department can operate on its own and thus we need to work together as a team. To integrate leadership in our operations, we need to create opportunities for all people to ensure that they freely participate in activities of role playing. With this, all people in the organization will gain experience and thus guide and direct our organization not only at present but also in the future. Since this is a rapidly growing organization, we first need to decide on when managers can make fast decisions and ensure that unless on such situations, leaders employ decision making based on democracy. We also need to study our problems as an entire organization and develop strategies that will help us in dealing with crises in the future. With training and having good customer relations, we will be working towards achieving our vision. To achieve this vision, we further need to communicate it to all people in the organization, set goals and encourage people to work. With this, we will rapidly grow our organization and achieve our mission.
Ethical culture includes both informal and formal systems that support ethical conduct in an organization (Shriberg & Shriberg, 2009). Leadership is thus essential to the development of an ethical culture since it is the leaders who create the organization’s systems. As a leader, one has to be a role model since others look at him to get guidance on the behavior they should execute in response to ethics. Leaders should provide a model to be followed by others and therefore guide the behavior at all levels of the organization. Ethical leadership entails honesty, trustworthiness and integrity. If a leader guides the people with these virtues, then there will be a culmination of an ethical culture. Another way of developing an ethical culture is by making decisions on the basis of society’s concern, fairness and value. Thus, in leadership, ethics is a priority and thus leaders should model an ethical culture by communicating ethical values to their employees. By rewarding those who exhibit excellent behavior, an organization motivates other people to develop an ethical culture.
Administrative leadership responsibilities
As a leader, one has to guide other staff members towards attaining their goals and those of the entire organization. A leader uses their leadership skills to motivate their staff (Shriberg & Shriberg, 2009). Leadership responsibilities involve training of staff. As a leader, one has to equitably choose on the staff to attend trainings, the duration with the view of how it will be beneficiary. A leader manages the human resources by ensuring fair recruitment. Therefore, they have to ensure that the organization gets competent people for the right job. Human beings need to be motivated so as to work. One of the ways in which a leader can motivate their staff is by rewarding them. Rewards can be offered in different forms. For instance, it can be through promotions, finances, gifts as well as recognition. When the rewards are given fairly, it motivates the rest to work hard. As a leader, they should be able to accommodate diversities whether they are cultural, religious, social or even racial diversities. In an environment where there is accommodation of diverse people, there will be team work and thus productivity.
It is through the performance of the staff that the company will increase its productivity. Therefore, as the leader has the responsibility of guiding their staff, this means that they are also creating benefits for the organization. Since an organization exists in a larger society, good leadership will also benefit the society. Where there is good leadership, it means that the company will offer good services and products. Thus, it is the responsibility of the leader to ensure a corporate social relationship between the organization and the society. This means that the society will also be involved in the operations of the organization for example by giving feedback.
Conclusion
Leadership in administration is very important to ensure the growth and hence success of the organization. Leadership entails involvement of all people in the organization therefore creating a culture of identifying with the organization. Where people are free to express themselves, they are more compelled to work. Leadership also involves the society and all the resources of the organization. Therefore, with administrative leadership, the organization will grow, become more productive and thus have a competitive advantage.
