First, Fred should assign each employee the role of critical evaluator. This will make it easy for the employees to air their views concerning the expenses. Second, Fred and other employees should examine all the alternatives before making the final decisions. Groups are not able to examine all the alternatives women making decisions and this affects the solution. So, Fred should encourage the members to review all the choices available.

Also, each member in the group should be free to discuss the issues with other people outside the group. This will help the group have a wide range of information or choices to choose from. In addition, Fred should invite expertise from outside to help the group in decision making. This will prevent the group from making decisions that are obsolete or invalid. Moreover, Fred can set up an independent team to help the group solve the issue. This will make it easy to get the solution as the group will have variety of choices to choose from.

Further, Fred should encourage open communication when making decisions. Open communication helps members in the group provide their solutions as other members listen. This prevents conflicts in the group (Irving, 1972).
