Bipolar Disorder

Table of Contents

One of the types of disorder associated with depression is bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is a diagnosis for a mood disorder where a person tends to experience disruptive mood swings (Cicchetti, D & Miklowitz, D 20110). It is usually alternated with the symptoms of depression. This is a brain disorder that cause unusual shifts in energy, activity level, mood, and ability to carry out daily tasks.

Spotting bipolar disorder is not usually easy when it starts because the symptoms usually appear to be like separate problems. This makes it not to be recognized as a large problem. This disorder is more than depression as it consists of depression periods that alternate with periods of better than normal moods known as mania. During these periods of mania, they can be mild, and they can also go to the extreme of interfering with the daily life.

Diagnosing this disorder is usually difficult for health professionals because it is difficult to distinguish depression that is caused by bipolar disorder from that depression of pure unipolar. The reason for the desire to learn this disorder is so that to find out what are its causes and the population of people who are mostly affected by this disorder.

In discussing this disorder, the paper will also focus on finding out what are its symptoms, the risk factors, the illness that co exist with the disorder, how it is diagnosed, and how it is treated. The paper will also evaluate the bio psychological theory of this disorder. By focusing on the above key aspects of bipolar disorder, it will be easy to understanding all about the disorder and how it can be managed.
