Inspiring Leader

Nelson Mandela is an excellent example of an inspiring leader. He always led by example in everything he did. Although he was imprisoned for almost thirty years, he still reconciled with his foes. As a president, Mandela had the ability to inspire many people through his motivational talk and a strong sense of ethics. Managers in the current business world can derive a lot from Mandela. For instance, he had excellent skills in conflict resolution. The modern day managers struggle to resolve organizational challenges in their companies.

However, if they would use the leadership skills of Nelson Mandela, they would attain tremendous success. Mandela’s inspirational leadership is also evident through his excellent decision making abilities. He did not make decisions with selfish ambitions. This is because he had the urge to liberate his countrymen from poverty and suffering (Bell, 2011). This is why his legacy is still recognized today. These skills are essential in order for any manager to be successful in business or organizational management. Aspects such as resilience are critical towards the attainment of organizational management.

Uninspiring Leader: Fidel Castro

In contrast to Nelson Mandela, Fidel Castro is an example of an uninspiring leader. He is notorious for dictatorial leadership in Cuba. Managers cannot learn a lot from this leader because his perspectives about leadership are not inspirational. For instance, he always has the final say in all government decisions. This is because he does not provide room for dialogue (Bell, 2011). In most cases, the leadership styles of Fidel Castro are dictatorial and as such, he cannot motivate his followers. In order to be effective in leadership, managers must respect the opinion of others. This helps in averting conflicts. However, Fidel Castro does not use this approach.
