The American Nurses Association

The American Nurses association is aimed at defining the capacity and standards of nursing practice. The American nurses association represents the interest of more than 3 million nurses who are registered. The American nursing association is aimed at advancing the nursing profession by improving the standards of nursing practice. In addition, the American nursing association focuses on improving the nursing professional by enhancing the right nurses in the organization and portraying a positive view of nursing (American nurses association, 2010).

There are different terms that are linked to nursing practice. First values refer to importance. In addition, morals involve determining whether something is good or bad. Ethics is a field of philosophy that answers questions that are linked with morality. Ethics helps determine if something is good or bad. Ethics and morality are applicable in nursing practice as they are used to make clinical decisions and guide the nursing practice. Nurses rely on ethical standards that have been established to determine if a nursing decision is good or bad. The American nurse association and the Ohio state have established laws that registered nurses should follow when providing care.

The American nursing association has developed various standards that guide nurses in their work. Standards are authoritative statements that describe the responsibilities that practitioners are responsible for. The nursing standards show the values and priorities of the nursing profession. They also act as a guiding for professional nursing practice and are used to evaluate the practice. The nursing standards identify the nursing professions are accountable to the public. There are different standards that nurses should follow. First, registered nurses are supposed to collect comprehensive data that is related to the health of the patient and condition. The collection of data is supposed to be a continuous process and the nurses are supposed to document data collected (American nurses association, 2010).

In addition, there are standards that govern the diagnosis of the patients. Registered nurses are supposed to analyze data collected during assessment so as to be able to determine the diagnosis. The nurses are supposed to derive their diagnosis on data collected. They should also validate the diagnosis with the patient’s family, patient and health care providers if necessary (American nurses association, 2010). They should also document the diagnosis in a way that enables one to determine the expected outcome and plan. Also, the American nurses association has developed standards that govern the outcomes identification. The registered nurses should identify the expected outcome so as to be able to develop the right plan. The nurses should involve the family, patient and even health care providers when identifying the outcome. The nurses are supposed to consider the risks, benefits   and scientific evidence that are linked with the outcome.

Registered nurses are supposed to develop a plan that show the strategies identified and alternative strategies to the outcome expected. The nurses should consider various characteristics of the patients when developing the plan. For example, they should consider the age, culture and environment when developing a plan (American nurses association, 2010).There are standards that govern the implementation of the plan and coordinating care. Registered nurses are supposed to implement the plan develop well and coordinate delivery of care. Nurses are supposed to document the implementation and any changes made. They should use evidence based intervention and treatment that is specific to the problem diagnosed. The implementation is evaluated according to resources used and documentation of implementation and changes. The coordination of care is measured according to how the nurse coordinates the implementation of the plan and documents.

Moreover, the American nursing association has developed standards to help prompt health and teach the community. Registered nurses are supposed to use the right strategies to enhance health and create a safe environment. The promotion of health is measured by the methods used to promote health and teach. The methods used should be inline with the condition and development level of the patient. The registered nurse should consult with other people so as to be able to implement the plan well. The nurses should also use the prescriptive authority, treatments and procedures according to the laws set in different states and federal laws. The registered nurses are supposed to evaluate the plan regularly to determine whether they are attaining the goals set or not. I have worked in the cardiovascular area for 9 years (Hamric, Spross &Hanson, 2005).

My nursing practice is inline with the standards established by the American nurse association. For example, I have been able to collect data about cardiovascular patients when taking care of them in the cardiovascular area. I have also been able to use the right instrument when collecting data and used the right analytical model and problem solving tools. In addition, I have been able to document the relevant data and synthesize knowledge related to the situation. This has made it easy to identify patterns and variances (American nurses association, 2004). However, I have not been able to involve the family. Also, my nursing  practice  is  also in accordance with the diagnosis  process  and the promotion of health  and teaching as I have been able to diagnose patients conditions well using data  collected. I have also been able to promote health. Also, I have been able to work with other people to develop the right plan and implement it. Lastly, my nursing practice is inline with the prescriptive authority and treatment. This is because I have used the treatment, procedures and therapies well (American nurses association, 2010).

The Ohio state has developed standards that relate competence of registered nurses. The Ohio state standards require registered nurses to provide care within the limit defined   for registered nurses. The registered nurse should be aware of his or her duties and responsibilities regularly. This will ensure the registered nurse provides safe nursing care. The registered nurses are supposed to show competence and accountability when providing nursing care. For example, the nurses should show consistent performance when offering care. They should also show competence and accountability when providing interventions and consulting with other people (Ohio. Gov, 2011).

Moreover, A registered  nurse  is allowed  to provide care  that is beyond  the preparation of a registered nurses so long  as  the nurse  gets education from a  recognized  body of knowledge that is relevant to the nursing care being provided. In addition, the nurse is allowed to provide care that is not inline with his or her profession as long he shows knowledge skills and ability to provide the care. The nurse is also allowed to provide care so long the nurse has a current order from a person who is authorized to practice in the state and the nurse is acting within the professional practice of the person (Ohio board of nursing, 1994).

A registered nurse is allowed to implement any order unless he or she believes it is not accurate and unauthorized. Also, the nurse should not implement any order if the nurse notices the order is not valid and harmful to the client. My nursing practice is inline with the standards set by OhioState to govern registered nurses. First, am aware of my duties, responsibilities and this has made it easy to offer quality care (Ohio board of nursing, 2003). Additionally, I have been able to show competence and accountability when providing care and consulting. Also, I have been able to show competence when providing interventions to patients having cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, I have not implemented any orders that are not accurate and valid. Also, I have not been able to implement orders that are not authorized properly. This is because I have been careful when providing care to patients. There are various areas that need to be improved. For example, I need to improve my performance  in  providing care as I have not been able to  show  consistent performance  as stated in the Ohio  state standards. Also, I have to improve on the developing of plans and implementing plans (Ohio. Gov, 2011).
