When a child enters through the court room entrance, they come in a formal, adult setting that gets designed for the solution of often contentious adult’s arguments. At this point, children get anxious in the courtroom; however, the situation and the nature of the stressors on the kid depend on the nature of the court proceedings and the child’s role in the process. There are three situations that typically bring children in court which include: contested parental divorce, child protection actions and delinquency or criminal offences. Additionally, a child might also be a witness in a criminal proceeding as the result of an abuse occurrence.     On rare cases, will children need to be present in a court proceeding for other types of cases, such as traffic offences or adoptions.

The steps to be taken in minimizing induced trauma would be; first to check on the point of stressors that would impact the child’s reaction. For example, using unsophisticated conversational language that the child understands; hence avoiding the child’s feelings of getting out of place. Secondly the child can be allowed to witnesses without being harassed through complicated questions. Furthermore, the material uncovered should have substantial evidence that goes beyond any doubt. As if not enough, the evidence must be presented in harmony with the court’s procedural requirement to qualify being helpful to the court.
