CO-CREATION OF LEADERSHIP

Co-creation is the practice of partnering with somebody or something else so as to facilitate something that is new. In this context, this partnering is for the benefit of coming up with new skills and ideas in leadership. In order for co–creation in leadership to take place, individuals who work together and relate to each other must have a common purpose and goal. Individuals must also have a partnering with the potential that they possess. It is this partnering that enables individuals to surpass what they had initially set.


For there to be co-creation of leadership, the existing platform must have individuals who are able to reckon intuitively. An individual should be able to let go of things and ideas that no longer add value. In co-creation of leadership, there is adoption of ideas that enable an individual to move to the next step. Once there is an achievement of this step, then it is no longer necessary to stick to the same ideas.


According to Drath there are certain codes or standards that ought to be present for there to be co-creation of leadership.  He refers to these as knowledge principles. These are the essential and leading set of principles and ideas taken for granted. They address the manner in which how to handle the duty and task of leadership. These ideas also provide a social meaning to various expressions of leadership.


By adopting this ideas and principles, it becomes possible for people to have effective formulas of addressing the demands of group work. By use of these principles, it is possible to provide substance to the manner in which interpretation of tasks take place in a society. The principles also provide various meanings that have qualitative differences of what constitutes leadership.


Drath provides the most relevant scholarly literature on co-creation of leadership. For relationships between individuals to result to co-creation of leadership, there ought to be mutual comprehension. It is this cohesiveness that enables one those with whom they relate to achieve co-creation of leadership. One of the crucial tasks that individuals who relate to each other with regard to co-creation of leadership should have is, setting direction to the work. This is one of the tasks that relationships among individuals ought to complete.


Setting direction has to do with communicating the ultimate destination and the path that would enable the achievement of goals and framing the work. This task makes it possible for individuals to have a plan of where they are going. It also enables individuals to know why they engage in a certain leadership act and how they will execute the plan. It also reminds and explains to members of a group of their origins and provides a sense of reason and function in the group.


The second task that is relevant for co -creation of leadership is developing and maintains a commitment to the work. This task makes it possible for there to be unity and synchronization and provides the necessary drive to keep on going even when there are obstacles. This task enables for there to be ultimate continuity, sustainability and unity. The final task is the ability to adapt to challenges that come along way. This task makes it possible for the group to have long term viability. It also enables individuals who relate with each other to come up with solutions to problems that are enormous.


This task also makes it possible for individuals in who relate with each other in relation to co-creation of leadership to adapt creatively and move forward. It is essential for relationships among individuals to emphasize on these tasks in order to explore how leadership takes place. Drath, W. (2001).


In order to continue with my leadership development and co-creation of leadership, there are certain key figures that are essential. This includes leaders and mentors who play a crucial part in my leadership development and co-creation of leadership. One of the essential figures is the future employer. The leadership of the next organization that I work in will be crucial to my leadership development. Through the mentorship of such a leader, it would be possible to develop my leadership skills.


Co-workers are also essential especially in co-creation of leadership. This is because it would be possible to share on how to develop leadership skills. Society and community leader are also essential for leadership development. Leadership should not only be about the place of work but also the external environment.


A motivational leader is the leader that I would best suit. In order to be able to be this kind of leader, there are certain actions that I would take. One of this includes getting advice from role model leaders in both organization and society setting. This would be essential as such advice would enable me to be an all round leader in both the work place and the society.
