The Current Situation Of Terrorism In The Middle East
According to The Daily Star of December 08, 2012, Syria was raising concerns that terror groups may now resort to the use of chemical weapons. This warning was mainly through Syria’s foreign ministry in Damascus. It targeted the United Nations. The article says that, terrorists have gained control of the factory that manufactures the toxic chlorine chemicals. The Syrian-Saudi Chemicals Company (SYSACCO) is a factory near Safira town. This could be the said factory captured by the terror groups. The said rebel fighters are from jihadist Al-Nusra Front, and the captured factory produces sodium hydroxide and hydrogen chloride. This factory is located in an agricultural location and has always received complaints from the farmers for polluting local water in the area.
The article also claims that, the UN security council’s Secretary general ban Ki-moon, released a statement saying that, under any circumstances, Syria would not use chemical weapons. This was after the UN Security Council had received a letter from Syria’s’ ministry. Since Syria is trying to cushion its people against the aggression of terrorism, this sounds as a worthy alert. In doing so, it admits to the challenges posed by terrorists and seeks world attention through the UN Security Council. The capture of a chemical plant by terrorist will see its misuse harm the population. This, therefore, calls for a quick attention to disarm the terror groups, and avoid hurting the community. Syria’s warning should be taken seriously and expeditiously because its ‘costs’ are unbearable if ignored.
