DAP in ECE is an article that describes a framework for creating an environment which will facilitate developmental appropriate practice.  The framework that the author describes is referred to as RESPECT. Respect stand for relationship, experience, security and space, play, expectation, caring, and time. The purpose of the article is to illustrate the environment that facilitate DAP (Brumbaugh, E 2008). From the research, it indicates that having a good relationship with the children is essential in their development. Involving parents in their children’s classroom is good as it creates a stronger relationship. The research also shows that experience is a good foundation for learning of children. It is necessary for educators to help children explore both indoor and outdoor so that they can experience what they do not know. Children should be provided with enough space and security so that they move freely and feel secure.

The results of this research indicate that when children are in classrooms that are overstocked, they feel trapped and insecure. The research also indicates that children should be allowed to play while in school. This will help them view learning as enjoyable, but not as a chore. Activities that engage children are essential in their development. Educators should provide activities that hold children to high levels of expectations (Brumbaugh, E 2008). Educators need to care about the setting that children are in, in terms of the activities they select, the materials provided, and the layout of the setting. Children need to be given enough time and educators should listen to them. This research was able to provide essential suggestions for creating a suitable environment for children development. This research is useful in early childhood education as it describes the environment that is best for child development.
