A Discussion Of Plato’s Ambiguous Use Of Soul (Psycho)

Plato regards the soul as the basic essence of an individual which influences his behavior. He considers the psyche to have a virtue of excellence. Plato’s use of psyche advances the thought that human life has a purpose. His use of soul shows that he regards the psyche as the origin of rational agency. Plato’s idea of psyche comes up with requirements for miserly or authentic happiness. As Topping (2007) notes, Plato’s use of psyche does not make a distinction of a psyche’s moral or non moral features. Thus according to him, the structure of the human beings psyche determines their behavior.

Plato’s commitment to human nature

Plato is committed to the human nature as he argues that permitting the domination of reason by irrational needs is basically a violation of the human nature. His arguments seem to disagree with the view of the human nature by the Sophists which basically advances an argument that the nature of humans is largely the extension of the animal world. Plato’s view of the human nature as rational as opposed to the Sophists view of irrationality in the human nature being attributable to irrational animal nature shows Plato’s commitment to human nature

Kant’s grasp of the true nature of humans

Kant grasp of the true human nature can be gleaned from his argument against limiting studies to only the specific aspects or characteristics of persons as found in beings is not sufficient to launch investigations with regards a given place and time. He argues that the “local” understanding of human to human beings. Kant’s belief that it is very difficult to answer the question on what the human being is, in my opinion, shows that Kant does not have a grasp of the true nature of the humans.
