Educational Leadership

Scenario One

For any elementary school, computers and playground equipment are two critical components of an effective learning environment. Exposure to computers is extremely vital for young learners in the modern world. On the other hand, playground equipment will help in enhancing the learners’ attentiveness in school. In order to resolve the prevailing conflict for resource allocation at Emanon Elementary School, it is essential to examine the implications of both decisions. If the PTO chooses to spend the money on computers, the school will benefit in terms of an efficient learning process. This is because the computers will benefit both students and educators. On the other hand, if the PTO chooses to spend the money on playground equipment, this will strongly benefit the students but not the teachers.

In essence, Emanon Elementary School stands to benefit immensely if the PTO spends the money on computers. In any organization, resource allocation patterns are useful determinants of performance. Even with minimal resources, an organization can attain efficiency if it employs a strategic approach for resource allocation. This justifies the evaluation of the prevailing conflict based on the implications of each decision (Wiseman, 2009).Although spending money on computers will elicit complaints from some members of the PTO, it serves as the most feasible decision for the school. The PTO members should make decisions that enhance the wellbeing of children. In the wake of the evident technological innovations in the globe, it is extremely vital to expose children to computers at al an early stage. Considering the importance of technology in education, it is thus necessary to purchase computers for Emanon Elementary School.

It is fundamentally essential to note that there are numerous alternatives for playground equipment. For instance, physical education is an excellent substitute for playground equipment. However, it is relatively inexpensive compared to the overall costs for acquiring playground equipment. The other approach for solving the prevailing problem is to establish a timeline for completing both projects independently. In this approach, the PTO money would be devoted to one project at a time. For instance, the PTO might establish a 12 month blueprint for completing the implementation of new playground equipment.Upon completion of the first project, the PTO would then focus on purchasing computers. This approach is advantageous in that it facilitates for the implementation of both projects (Hersey, 2012). Additionally, the approach would facilitate for efficiency because the PTO will devote all resources to one project at a time. This would be helpful in mitigating potential conflicts between members of the PTO who either support the purchase of playground or computers.

The third approach towards solving this problem involves the establishment of a consultative forum for the two factions of the PTO. In the forum, both factions would have the opportunity to air their rationale for choosing the playground equipment or computers. Consequently, it would be possible to identify the most feasible decision based on the rationale provided by both parties. It represents an excellent approach for choosing to implement any of these projects.Another crucial perspective with regard to the prevailing issue pertains to the evaluation of available data. For instance, new computers might not be a necessity for the elementary school. This perspective would make it inevitable for the PTO to spend the money on playground equipment. In contrast, if the school has adequate playground equipment, it would not be necessary for the PTO to purchase new computers (Wiseman, 2009).

Zero basing is among the most available options for streamlining efficiency at Negativity High School. There are various benefits for this action. Firstly, it will present an excellent platform for averting unnecessary expenses for the institution. Additionally, zero basing will also be useful in enhancing the productivity of staff members. This is because they will be assessed on a performance-based approach. The zero base approach is also useful in enhancing the superintendent’s confidence in the school administration. In previous years, this approach was not evident. This could be one of the main reasons why the school had poor performance (Wallace, 2006).

On the contrary, the zero base approach also has various shortcomings. For instance, it requires an excellent technical understanding. Without such a framework, the institution might not benefit from the implementation of the zero base plan. Additionally, this framework requires a lot of time. This is a disadvantage compared to other programs. In order to gain support from staff members, it is necessary to use a leadership framework that enhances motivation. For instance, transformational leadership will be useful in boosting the morale of all employees. Additionally, this leadership framework is beneficial in terms of enhancing communication among all staff members.

Effective communication mechanisms are essential platforms for boosting the performance of teachers in an educational institution such as Negativity High School. From another perspective, it is fundamentally crucial to develop a leadership framework that recognizes the ethnic diversity in the school. Diversity can be the source of conflicts in the institution if there lacks effective leadership strategies. This underscores the importance of establishing a leadership framework that appreciates ethnic diversity. Motivation of teachers will help in boosting education standards at Negativity High School. Among the unforeseen circumstances is that the school’s performance will improve tremendously. Additionally, this framework will be useful in enhancing the commitment of teachers towards their tasks (Hersey, 2012).

There is the likelihood that staff members will support the school’s efforts to improve performance. This is different from previous years when staff members did not support the principal. Resistance from members of staff can easily hamper the performance of the entire school. Consequently, it is crucial to ensure that teachers rally behind the principal. It is also fundamentally crucial to involve teachers’ representatives in drafting a new policy on performance. This is because they are fully aware of the various issues and challenges facing the school. For instance, the teachers have adequate information about the various alternatives for enhancing the performance of students.

In resolving institutional problems, it is always vital to integrate all stakeholders in the decision making process (Wallace, 2006). This is why teachers’ representatives will be included in the formulation of new performance plans. Regular assessments of staff members will also help in streamlining the school’s performance.  Such assessments are vital in identifying the nonperforming members of staff. Additionally, the assessments are vital in determining the most crucial areas of improvement. Apart from involving all stakeholders, it is also vital to consult educational leaders from the school district. The input of such professionals is extremely useful in that it provides a technical basis for technical decision making (Wiseman, 2009).
