Films and Streaming Media
Introduction
The film selected for review on this paper was selected from atomfilms.com. The film-Harry Porter and the office of employment-is an animated production based on characters from the series of Harry Porter films. The film’s URL is http://www.atom.com/funny_videos/potter_unemployment/. The film was chosen because it was based on characters that are already known from the actual Harry Porter films. Therefore, it would be easy to compare this production to the actual films, on aspects such as how the producer handles his characterization and the kind of roles s/he assigns to the characters. In the film, the wizard disappears with every student’s tuition fee. As a result, the Hogwarts School of wizardry is unable to run because of the lack of funds.
The head of the school professor Dumbledore, announces the sad news and goes ahead to explain to the students that the school will turned in to condominiums for rental. Therefore, all the students have to hit the streets and seek for jobs. The students find life on the streets to be very difficult because they lack modern experience required for jobs such as computer skills. As a result, they end up engaging in illegal activities such prostitution and gambling (Corkyo, 2010). The film contrasts the original Harry Porters films by portraying characters differently and contrasting Hogwart’s life based on old times to the present and modern world requiring scientific knowledge rather than magic.
The film is intended for a general audience, however; it would be appropriate to say that the film would have been fit for a younger audience were it not for the language used in the film. The film is fit for a young audience of children aged between five to twelve years. However, the content of language at some point in the film, especially the scene on prostitution is not fit for a younger audience because the content is vulgar. The film did not address the audience appropriately because the language used and some of the content displayed is not fit for watching, especially under aged children who are the intended audience for this category of films. The producers have also failed to adhere to multimedia rules especially on copyright infringement. This piece of film used material and characters from the original productions of Harry Porter without seeking any copyright permission, and as such some rules were not observed (Radcliffe & Brinson, 1996).
The introduction of streaming media has greatly changed the World Wide Web from a static graphics and text based medium to a multi media experience loaded with moving pictures and sound. In turn, the internet has also transformed the creation and distribution of multimedia content on the World Wide Web. This has provided a convenient, low cost world wide reach with technical simplicity that allows a quick and easy transfer of files to various people anywhere in the world (Thede &Beggs, 2001). The speed of transfer of big files over a short time allows people to easily download streaming media. Individuals and businesses once denied a chance to access this powerful communication means can now use the web to connect and reach millions of people all over the world. Therefore, the wide reach of the web provides a large number of audiences that a person can reach by using the World Wide Web. The creation process has also been boosted because viewers can now respond to created pieces of multimedia through interactive means provided by blogs, and thus offer advice to the creators on how to better their work. Thus work created may in actual sense be designed by people far apart without there being a need for people to physically meet (Campbell et.al, 2002).
