Health Education Program on Obesity in Baltimore, Maryland

Although there are numerous health problems in the State of Maryland, obesity is among the most challenging issues. The rate for obesity among adults in Maryland stands at 28% (Finkelstein, 2010). Additionally, obesity is an issue of concern among children in this state (Lewis, 2010). This health education program seeks to address the problem of obesity in a community in Baltimore, Maryland. Following is an elucidation of the objectives of the program.


Objectives:

  1. During the program, I would like the participants to understand the causes of obesity. This applies to both adults and children.
  2. During the health education program, I intend to enlighten the participants about the different implications of obesity on individual’s health.
  3. I intend to educate the participants about the various ways in which they can prevent obesity.
  4. During the health education program, I intend to evaluate the prevalence of obesity in the community. This includes collecting data on persons suffering from obesity and also records from the state health department (Kazaks, 2012).
  5. Another objective of this health education program is to assess the measures taken by authorities in order to address the problem of obesity in Baltimore and other places in Maryland.
  6. During the education program, I intend to enlighten participants about the benefits of taking part in regular exercises.
  7. I want to educate the participants about the various ways in which they might seek help if they are suffering from obesity.
  8. During the health education program, I intend to examine the ways in which obesity affects children in Baltimore. This includes their psychological wellbeing and performance in school (Segrave, 2008).
  9. Working with the local public health practitioners in order to alleviate the prevalence rates of obesity in the community.
