Since patients are part of the public, HIPAA relates and does cover their needs and diversities. Patient’s diversity entails various forms such as culture, religion, gender, veteran status, race, disability, age or national origin. The “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act” (HIPAA), concerning health provides a cover on different categories of citizens like families and workers. Furthermore, this act seeks to improve the health care delivery service, medical savings and to promote the use of savings for the public. The citizens depend on the act to safeguard their interest regarding health privacy as clearly stipulated in part 7 section 702.

Computer-generated documents are prepared and used in providing patient’s demographic data, specific conditions and problems, as well as, laboratory tests and current medication profile. Some documents containing the patient’s progressive content get printed and give to patients from the first day their diagnosis begins. Computer-generated documents present a full record profile that the clinicians use in adding or referring about a patient’s treatment progress.

In addition, these documents provide detailed diagnostics procedure done on patients including time and venue it took place. It is thus consistent in content with the continuity of care record. Clinicians call this documents worksheet that displays the patient’s demographic data and the current medication profile. Direct content related to the patient’s problems that are presented in the documents contains information like; particular laboratory results and advisories, and also other preventive care advisories based on available patient’s data.

During this unit’s activities, I learnt how to generate computer-generated worksheets using Microsoft office excel documents. For example, we prepared a computer-generated patient summary sheet within the existing electronic medical record system. This knowledge will get to be helpful especially when I practice as a medical assistant since I have gained the basic skills of using an electronic medical record system.
