HRM Assignment
There is no right selection or interview method that companies can use when hiring their employees. Hiring employees depends on the nature of job as well as the number of employees required in a given situation. The need of the company counts a lot when developing interview plan because the company should get the right candidate for the job. When conducting an interview, one might find that more than ten candidates qualify for the job. The problem lies on selecting one from the list. This essay will look at how HRM should do in selecting a sales manager out of twenty five candidates with similar qualifications.
Having realized that your candidates have equal qualifications, as a manager you should look beyond qualifications. There are other important areas that a manager should use in selecting the best out of many with same qualifications. According to selection procedure and methods, there are different ways that a manager should use in selecting the best applicant. In getting the best candidate out of the many qualified, a manager should use behaviors, attitudes, mode of dressing, and personality. Your candidates may be having the same qualifications when it comes to papers but posses different qualifications in other areas. A good manager should be in a position to develop such selection methods so as to have the right hire for a given work. After you realize that your candidates are equally in papers, you are supposed to conduct several interviews applying other methods of selecting a desired candidate, (Tyler, 2010).
When selecting new hires, one of the most important things a manager should look at is the behaviors. Candidate’s behaviors are important when selecting new hires to fill in for the posts available in an organization. Research shows that most candidates are good in papers but when it comes to behaviors they are poor. Incase you have more than one qualified candidates; behavior selection method should help you in selecting the candidate who is qualified. When selecting a sales manager out of twenty five applicants look for the candidate who turned early for the interview.
A candidate who came early for the interview shows that he values time thus he will also behave the same when employed thus your time will be utilized in the right manner. During the interview process the candidate who answered all the questions in a confident way should be the best for the job. On the same note the right candidate should be one who was calm and was to the point when answering questions, (Wright & Domagalski, 2010).
Some managers use personality as a selection method when candidates turn out to have same qualifications in paper work. When hiring your top candidate ensure that you have selected that candidate who is confident enough. Sales managers should be well understood by the employer as well as the clients. It is important to hire a manager who talks well with other employees so as to develop a healthy working environment.
The best candidate should be one who has positive reaction towards job. A sales managers meets a lot of people in the process of accomplishing his or her duties thus ensure that your new hire should have positive personalities. Your new hire should be in a position to integrate and suit to the company in the right manner. As a manager, if you want to have a healthy working environment, ensure that you have the right candidate simply because one bad new hire might spoil the rest of the employees, (Overman 2010).
The way an individual dresses talks more of his or her job qualification. A sales manager should be well presentable to the clients as well as to the entire organization. When hiring new hires, ensure that you have selected the candidate who values what he or she puts on. Even if the organization uses a uniform, you will know the right candidate to fill for the position, (Lavigna 2009).
Attitude is another important aspect that should be looked at when selecting for a desired applicant. As a manager ensure that you have a new hire who has positive attitudes. Sales managers should have positive attitudes in order to handle their jobs in the right way. Research shows that most organizations consider attitude as one of the ways they use when selecting desired applicants. Employees who are reluctant to change will always drag organization development. It is vital to ensure that your new hire is someone who fits in the organization and has the potential to move and grow with the company, (Kluemper & Rosen, 2009).
In conclusion, selecting a new hire out of many applicants requires the manager to consider other aspects other than qualification of papers. There are different aspects that should guide in selection process such as attitude, personality, dressing mode, and behavior among others. In this case, selecting a sales manager the right method to use should be personality.
