Hunger Games

The fictional story in the movie the Hunger Games provides viewers with enjoyment and entertainment. The themes presented in this story can be reflected in the present day society. The story in Hunger Games is not real, though because there are no children selected to fight for their survival in a game, but the topics in this story apply to the present day society. The story presents various aspects related to the popular culture of commodity and consumerism culture. There is also the theme of performance and privacy. Katniss’s district has a name that stands for the consumerism culture.

The Hunger Games held in the Capitol symbolizes the theme of commodity culture. The people in the Capitol also enhance the commodity culture. Katniss present statements concerning privacy to make sure that she is aware of all that she says. There is also the culture of performance as seen all through the movie in Katniss.The nickname of the district that Katniss comes from is an indication of the consumerism culture.  This district is nicknamed Seam and its part of District 12. It is a district that is with coal miners. Coal seam is a coal layer on the ground, and coal bed is several seams of one layer after another. The bed coal has more coal to be mined. The people from Katniss have   mined coal for several decades since the years of their forefathers.  This means that, in the present time, the miners have to move further deep in order to mine coal. This is because there is no much coal available on the surface as thought by the Capitol.

The culture of commodity is also another aspect that defined the capitol and its residence. The   capitol is a region with technological advancement and wealth. Katniss is by this technology, such as, for one to ear, one has to press a button and food appears. At the capital food is to be a commodity just like the present day America. The residents of the Capitol do not have to worry about finding food as the way Katniss and her people do in hunting for food or growing it in farms.The holding of Hunger Games in the capital indicated the commoditization of death. The   Capitol misuses its power by selecting children from various districts to fight for their survival, and to fight to death. The people in the Capitol value most their wealth and do not worry about the concerns of their children. These children in the capital can at any time be selected for the Hunger Games without minding about the hardships of the children, but the wealth that these children can bring to the family after winning the competition.

Panem privacy in the whole country does not appear to be in existence. Katniss is aware that in the juggle someone could be hearing anyone because of the technological advancement of the Capitol.  She is unaware that her privacy is and this has an impact on her performance in the completion. She can be seen even at home where the privacy of an individual is infringed. She   also knows that she cannot prickly topics in public when at home. However, in the course of the competition her boyfriend learns of   her trying to help the wounded boy and he feels jealous and threatened.The movie presents various examples of commodity and consumerism culture that can be reflected in modern day America. There is the issue of performance and privacy that can be seen in the current society. This is where the government has authority to monitor private emails and speeches to endure safety for all Americans.
