Factors considered when managers are deciding on which programs to implement

When the managers want to implement a certain program it will be necessary to consider some factors otherwise the program may end up failing on the way.

The managers should specify the goal they would like to achieve at the end of the program. This is the outcome they would like to achieve from the program at the end. Once the outcome goal has been specified then they should consider the intermediate goals. These are the goals that need to be achieved on the implementation process before the major goal is attained. They may include accomplishments, attitudes, behaviors and levels of knowledge.

The theory of the program should be described. This will act like the guidelines to the activities of the program. This will also help show up to what extend the target population is being helped.Impact model should be constructed. This shows what is to happen to the participants of the program before the realization of the outcome goals.

After this then the actions to be taken in the implementation of the programs should be laid down. This will show the efforts that are to be put in the program by the concerned parties so that its success is realized.

For a program to work it need some input. These inputs are in terms of the resources. The resources needed to implement a program may include knowledge and the staff skills, the physical resources, financial resources and advertising to make the project know among different people especially those who it will cause some impacts to.

All the plans of the program need to be evaluated. This evaluation will help the managers know which plans are workable and whether the program is viable. If the program is deemed to fail then the necessary changes are be made. Failure to evaluate can make the program fail at a very advance stage which will be a waste. (Rivlin, 1990)
