Summary and Analysis

Mary Louise article talks of the activities of the CIA. The body is the secret army of the president and works above the lands authority and law. The paper presents a brief history of CIA from its conception in the late 40s at the start of the Cold war. The Group began an operation program known as the mockingbird. The operation is to oversee new technologies the media and all centers of communication.  Louise thesis for this article is the CIA is the power above the law with unlimited authority and power


Evidence

The role of the CIA is to covert missions, undertake secret activities, and control connection. These activities are conducted with absolute secrecy. The aim of these activities is to ensure national security and give a sense of responsibility to all members and groups of the nation. The CIA has taken charge of the media and telecommunication sectors to monitor any flow of information which threatens the security of the public. The CIA was formed in the early 1940s at the wake of the cold war. It developed the mockingbird operation to examine what goes on “behind the scene of the major media group’s outlet”.  The organization has recruited spies as reporters and journalists to disseminate any propaganda spread against the United States government.  This has proven to be a successful process in maintaining national coherence and stability.


The media house which has supported  the activities of  CIA  are ABC,  CBA,  united press international and Scripps Copley news service among other media house. In the 1950s, the CIA had incorporated the media, universities, and nationals business with install operations. Louise points out the misconception that many Americans have; “that the country has a free press yet most of the news from the media houses and the internet are controlled by the state.


Similarly, major networks are also controlled by the states under the law obligation. Media diversity is a controlled ownership of concentration which the bigger and more competitive corporations have absorbed the smaller ones. The large conglomerates have largely interfered with the flow of information due to conflicts of interest.  Mockingbird was largely funded by CIA through Cultural Freedom congress.


The author utilizes examples of articles on the operations of CIA. She talks of Alex Constantine who ones stated that “the Virtual government and the CIA Mind Control operations in America. Another article is by CNN entitled “Valley of Death” in 1998.  This article talks of the secret investigation. There is also the story of Watergate of the 1970s which was posted in Washington Post. The CIA utilized journalists from “abroad and at home in detecting any propaganda”.  The Woodward was “later said that it was briefer of naval intelligence and the White House”. A journalist, according the author is more than twenty CIA agents.


Conclusion

Mary Louise article provides an insight of CIA operations from the early years of the Cold war. In the protection of notational security, the media and internet operations are largely controlled by the law under the CIA investigation. Journalist and news reporters have been employed under the investigation of CIA to put forward any propaganda in the media houses.
