Problem Identification, Analysis and Solving

Problem Solving

Laura has various problems that seem to be holding her back from achieving her endeavors. Some of the problems are minor and others are major problems; the problems threaten her studies and the plan to achieve a degree. Firstly, Laura is unable to perform well in her mathematics class because she does not seem to understand what is taught in the math lessons. She has not been able to complete her mathematics homework from the previous week, and she failed in two previous math quizzes. Secondly, Laura is unable to meet deadlines and attend classes in time.

Thirdly, Laura is unable to complete her academic work in time because she has too much work to do and less time to spare for academic work. The internet connection in her home seems to be problematic too. Finally, she does not understand how to make citations in research papers. A review of this scenario shows two major problems-the lack of enough time to spare for her academic work and studies as well as the lack of understanding college coursework. The lack of good internet connectivity is also noted, but as a minor problem that affects her study activities because she is an online student. A critical analysis of this problems should be able to reveal their main cause and thereafter a solution can be sought accordingly (Moody & Sherfield, 2010).

Laura’s failure in math quizzes and lack of citation proficiency indicates that she needs to dedicate more time to the study of areas that she does not understand well. However, this may not be possible because she works on a full time basis and she has taken four classes at one go, a number that may be hard to handle because she has little time to spare for the classes. This is also indicated by the fact that she is unable to meet deadlines and attend classes in time. Thus, her main problem is the lack of time to dedicate to her academic work and studies. The lack of time is caused by her decision to undertake four classes in one go. This in turn, has turned out to be overwhelming because she works on a full time basis and she has a family to attend to by the end of the day.

In order to solve her problem, Laura may opt to reduce the classes that she is undertaking in order to create more time for her study activities. Alternatively, she may quit her job or ask the management to offer her lesser work hours so that she can have more time to study. The minor problem on internet connectivity may be solved by acquiring other different connections that can be used when her normal connection is down. Alternatively, she may opt to buy USB Modem linked to telephony networks which is portable and easy to use when conventional connections fail.

Conclusively, her problems can be solved if she creates more time for her studies and if she acquires other internet connections. The best option in the creation of time may lie in consulting her boss to offer her more time off. This is a better option than leaving her job, because she will lose her source of income. Equally applicable as a solution is the reduction of the classes she wants to undertake, however; this will only work if she will accept to take longer time to accomplish her studies.
