For Profit And Not For Profit

For the past years medical services have always been not for profit (Getzen, 2007). Hospitals were designed to provide medical services to patients, but not make profit. Currently, the number of health care facilities which are privately owned has increased. This is because of the rising competition in provision of health care facilities. Most hospitals in many countries are privately owned and only aimed at making profits (Getzen, 2007). Also, pharmaceutical facilities are also privately owned. Most people prefer seeking medical attention from private owned hospitals, but not federal hospitals. For profit health care has both negative and positive impact on healthy care out come. First, for profit health care facilities offer quality services to patients and ensure time delivery of care and patient safety. This is because thy have enough medical facilities and one is able to get quality and effective care. Thus, most people prefer for profit health care.

Though, for profit health care provides quality and effective services, it affects health care outcome negatively. Private hospitals are only money oriented and they may not employ qualified personnel and this affects the outcome of health care. Patients do not get right treatment. Not for profit health care affects outcome of health care. Patients do not get quality and effective care as they do not have enough facilities and personnel as they depend on federal funds. This affects provision of services. It also affects patient’s safety as the personnel do not provide quality services.Competition has become common in health care. Private and public hospitals are competing for market share. To attract enough customers and maintain a good percentage of market shares, health care facilities should be located in the right areas. The hospitals should be near the residents so as to attract customers (Getzen, 2007).
