Realizing The Best From Teams

A healthy organizational culture is the one which has teams which have strong interpersonal ties among the members. Organizational development today emphasize on embracing diversity and creating effective teams which propel the organization towards achievement of its goals. Effectiveness of teams is not only determined by their functionality but also efficiency is realized when teams are aligned to the values, vision, and commitments of the organization. Team leaders therefore need to take measures to effect this, Prestrige & Kossler (2006).

Communication is inevitable if teams are to remain in cohesion to the organization’s vision, communication ensures that the goals of the organization are clarified to the employees; it also creates a good rapport between the members of the organization. This way harmony is achieved between respective players in the organization, the teams can therefore work towards to goals of the organization, Manz & Peters (2007).


The leaders should also ensure that the team members are motivated to work with the goals of the organization. Good leaders should be aware of the needs of every member of their teams. A good leader focuses on the people but not on tasks. Satisfying the needs of the team members through for example offering sufficient compensation for their efforts will ensure that the members are motivated towards achievement of the organization’s goals, Parker (1996).


To ensure that the teams are affiliated to the code of ethics and values of the organization, the members should be reminded from time to time of what is expected of them, not only should them be reminded but should also be motivated to hold to the values in the organization. All the teams should work together as one if purpose in the organization is to be realized.
