Resource leveling is a technique for project management that is used in examining unbalance use of resources. The aim of keeping a project on the schedule is to ensure that the utilization of resource leveling is in context with planning ahead in terms of equipments, people, and skills needed at the appropriate time. Resource leveling keeps a project on schedule as it utilizes any available float; it understands the project priority in the company scheme, have the flexibility for varying the project milestone and end dates if the necessary resources are not allocated (Clements & Gido 2008). It helps in ensuring that the project is on the line. It helps in solving conflicts and any over allocation that might happen.
Work breakdown structure
Work breakdown structure is a task by task breakdown that has time estimate for the completion of the whole project. WBS is essential to a project because it define the scope of the project work that is to be accomplished (Clements & Gido 2008). It also displays the project in a way that relates the work elements to each other and the goal of the project. It provides a format for defining the project work, tracking and planning the progress of the project.
Statement of work
The statement of work is a statement of all the work that should be completed in a project. Statement of work is essential in a project because it discusses the services that are required in order to complete a project. It also defines the tasks that should be accomplished. SOW is essential during the evaluation, monitoring, and implementation of the project cycles (Clements & Gido 2008). Stakeholders can use this statement in refocusing the team members in case they feel that the project is derailed.
