The first step in creating a strategic plan for different organizations is to determine the mission statement. The (Maryland) Governor’s Office of Homeland Security (GOHS) works to ensure that Maryland remains prepare and secured in terms of protecting the life, wellbeing and material goods of the state. GOHS advises the governor on the policies, priorities, and strategies that can be implemented. GOHS needs to embrace strategic planning so that it can ascertain that the first responders in times of hazards, natural and manmade calamities acquire adequate training and exercises. GOHS needs to cooperate with state partners to ensure that target training is provided. Strategic planning also guarantees that GOHS will detect and potential training gaps and caters for them thus enhancing safety, health and security in the region.


Other than training strategic planning is also vital to determine how and where funds shall be distributed (Mittenhal, nd). With strategic planning, GOHS can use some of its funds to develop and elaborate communication and technology infrastructure. This will improve information transfer and information sharing. Overall, strategic planning will help GOHS remain true to its mission.


The World Bank is another organization that can benefit from strategic planning. The mission of the World Bank is to aid in alleviating poverty levels in developing nations. This international financial institution strives to achieve this through the provision of loans to developing nations.   Strategic planning at the World Bank is vital as it will aid the institution in establishing developing nations that require financial assistance. An elaborate strategic planning system will also help World Bank measure the success of its funding efforts. This will be done in relation to determining the progress of the developing nations.


The international Red Cross focuses on providing humanitarian assistance to nations that have been affected by natural and manna made calamities. Strategic planning at the international red cross is vital so as to guarantee that the body  reaches and serves all humanity in need. Strategic planning will also enable the organization to plan how it shall support national societies with disaster preparedness strategies. This may require training hence funds allocation. With strategic planning, the international Red Cross can allocate training funds to different regions across the world. Strategic planning will also enhance accountability for the programs and resources that the organization rolls out (Allison, & Kaye, 2005).


The Department of Foreign Affairs in Iraq needs to embrace strategic planning to enable it bring the country back on its feet. Iraq acquired a poor reputation due to its links with terrorist.  After the invasion and removal of terrorist sympathizer Saddam Hussein, the foreign affairs department should strive to portray the nation as changed. Strategic planning for the Department of Foreign Affairs in Iraq will aid in determining effective ways to venture into the world as a restructured and improved nation. Iraq needs to improve its relations with the international community (Allison, & Kaye, 2005). An elaborate strategic strategy will enable the foreign affairs department determine ways to improve relations with other nations.
