Question 1: critical analysis of the article In Support of the Whole Child
Slade (2012) in the article, In Support of the Whole Child, discusses the direction that the country is to take regarding public education and the best way forward. The findings gathered by Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) reveal that there is a need to review the country’s education system. According to Slade (2012), the right path towards in term so educating the child is focusing on his whole well being and development. The article concludes by indicating that education in the country system should focus on establishing all round children. These are children who are intelligent, emotionally stable and physically healthy, civically active and artistically engaged (Pring, 2007; Brown, 2008).
The article is adequately informative on the direction that educator should consider. Education is not only about a student’s cognitive ability, but also his physical, mental and psychological well being (Scherer, 2009). It is by achieving all these elements that the country will have students that actively participate in society. The content of the article is reliable as it is based on research done by recognized bodies such as PISA. PISA is a well established institution that evaluates education systems worldwide. The evaluation done by PISA helps nations worldwide to re evaluate their education system and ensure they are in line with the overall goal of learning (PISA, 2009).
With regards to emphasize on the whole child approach of education, the article makes reference of scholars such as John Dewey. Dewey was an educational reformer and psychologist of the 19th and 20th century. Dewey has always proposed that education and learning should be taken as social and interactive processed (Dewey, 2010). Dewey also advocated on teaching with emphasis on learning rather than knowing. The article uses Dewey’s approaches to emphasize their point on a whole child approach educational approach (Hansen, 2006).

He thus has the authority to address the elements of education with regard to the whole child system.
The article is also interactive and poses questions to the readers. This allows readers to ponder over their ideal response. Eventually, it leads to the summation that a whole child approach to education is ideal for the country educational system (The whole child, 2012). The society desires for an educational system that mould the child all round, and according to the article the whole child approach is ideal. The article is thus an ideal source of evidence that a practicing administrator-researcher can use in determine the best form of education system that the country can adopt.
