What Makes A Good Teacher?
Teachers play a great role in the learning process of students. Any student who grows up to be successful has a story to tell about any of his/her teachers. These stories are for the teachers who contributed greatly in their academic life by helping them to discover their potential and pursue their career without giving up. However it is not every teacher who has the capability to make a positive impact in both the current and future lives of their students.
For a teacher to influence their students positively, he must possess some very distinct features which are evident in almost every story told by students about a teacher they treasure for his/her contributions in their life. These qualities include the following three but they are not limited to only these: Tough with love, inspirational, dedicated and wisdom
- 1. Tough with love
A good teacher should be tough on his/her students. This trait however should be accompanied with love. A teacher who is hard on his student will have them disciplined and it is through this that they will follow what they are told. These teachers usually show their students some truths which they should live by. They don’t let their students do the things which will lead them to trouble either now or in future.
For instance one of my teachers was very strict with us in college. He would not let u to be late in school or in class. Though we saw this as a punishment, it has helped me learn to be punctual and be time conscious in every activity I undertake. This saves me a lot of time and I find myself been able to meet almost all deadlines set for me.
2. Motivational and inspirational
Leaning process is not easy. It involves making of mistakes and at times being unable to tackle some problems. It takes a good teacher to help his/her students out of these problems. This can only be done by motivating and inspiring the students and showing them they can make it despite the challenges they face. Though I had problems tackling problems in Mathematics subject in high school the teacher kept encouraging me not to give on the subject. It is due to this that I passed in the subject and even pursued it at the college level.
- 3. Dedication and wisdom
Good teachers should dedicate their time in helping their students. They should show exemplary decision making skills in the face of uncertainties. Students will benefit most if they are taught the fundamentals that matter most in their lives. These will amount to success in their lives. An educated teacher will be wise enough to help his/her students out when faced with problems.
Conclusion
Tough teachers who are filled with love will always help their students to achieve their goals. Teachers who are informed and dedicated are a blessing to children and an asset to the nation.
Teachers should be able to notice things that have nothing to do with schoolwork but are vital to youngsters’ developmentGood teachers should have some influence and some commanding power because it is only through this that the students with little knowledge will be able to follow them
Students need to be supported and it only takes wise, educated, warm-hearted teachers to do this to their students.
