Organizational Behaviour in a Global Context

Michael Eisner argues that “failure is part of success”. The former CEO of Walt Disney claims that leaders in Disney have encouraged failure as part of their success. Failure has helped the leadedrs succeed in their activities. Like leaders in Disney, leaders in other organizations should make mistakes. Making mistakes has a lot of benefits to leaders and the organization. First, making mistakes helps strengthen the leaders as they are able to build their weaknesses. Most of the leaders who have been successful in leading organizations and institutions have committed mistakes and admitted them. Leaders are supposed to commit mistakes and admit them so as to be a good example to other people in the organization and outside the organization. Leaders who do not respond well to the mistakes by either admitting them or correcting them find it difficulty to lead the employees. This is because the leaders do not act as role models to the employees (Mills, Mills &Forshaw, 2006).

Though committing mistakes has a lot of benefits as stated by Michael Eisner, it has more harm to the organization. Committing mistakes can affect the organization negatively. First, committing mistakes can affect the performance of the organization and success. This is because leaders commit mistakes and do not respond well. Leaders should not commit mistakes as they can affect the employees and the organization. All leaders are supposed to act as role models to the employees. Committing mistakes might make it hard for leaders to act as role models to the workers and other people outside. This in turn affects the relationship between the leaders and employees and performance of the organization. Leaders should try to avoid committing mistakes so as to be able to lead the organization well. They should ensure they have the right leadership styles, but not make mistakes (Mills, Mills &Forshaw, 2006).
