Organizational Effectiveness According To The Theory Of Howard Gardner

Multiple Intelligence

Organizational theories have been postulated which all agree that managers with multiple intelligence is the most crucial aspect for the general success of the organization in fulfilling its mission, goals and tasks. All these aspects highly depend on the intelligence of the managers. Modern day management of the organization highly demands the application of Multiple Intelligence because it is the only way an organization can achieve its effectiveness. Managers should therefore be more intelligent than other rival companies in the highly turbulent and competitive market (Sariolghal, 2003)

The highly effective mangers are those who are able to sense the perception and feelings of their employees about the work environment and they are able to effectively intervene when the subordinates begin to feel discouraged and dissatisfied with the kind of job situation they are facing. Also effective managers or organization leaders are those who are able to manage their emotions well because they want their employees to feel good working for them and also to gain the trust of their employees. This is the only way how bosses can be able to retain their employees meaning that these are the leaders who have multiple intelligence (Cheeriness, 2001).

The enigma of Howard Garner was the first to bring a shift or change from the traditional mode of thinking by postulating that the multiple intelligence of an individual is very important because it gives him the ability to reason. This postulation can be applied in the study about organizational management and OE practice. Multiple intelligence can be understood in two main ways, first is the psychometric view which is a traditional approach which looks at intelligence as one single aspect. This approach is known as the general intelligence. An individual is born with potential intelligence which is hard to change. This intelligence can be tested by psychologists through administering test which require short answers and the determining measures are time taken in reacting to flash light or a specific brain waves pattern (Gardner, 2004).

This traditional IQ test was not satisfactory to many researchers and they later developed other alternative theories suggesting that the concept of intelligence is as a result various independent abilities which contribute to the general performance of an indiviudal in a unique way. These theories are not fixed, predetermined or unitary but instead suggest that intelligence can be modified, can be developed and it is multifaceted. From the insights gained about multiple intelligence students are given the opportunity   to build on their M multiple intelligence in a successful manner. This is how student will be helped to achieve their collective and individual potential so as to help them achieve their future goals.

It is almost an impossible task to measure organizational effectiveness and even to come up with a concession on organization effectiveness. This is because there is sparse literature in prescribing the methods of achieving effectiveness among organizations, the board members and the managers. Also, the term efficiency is the ability to do the right thins and effectiveness means to do the right things. However despite the many literatures on effectiveness, there is however no consensus on how to optimize effectiveness. Despite the various challenges, on the right definition of organizational effectiveness, and lack of a specific procedure on the assessment of this concept, organizational effectiveness has all the same been done in a random fashion.

One of the aspect that has been used in determining effectiveness is the ability of the organization to accomplish its goals another approach is the system –resource approach   whereby the   organization assumes its goal possession. Therefore goal achievement is the diving force of most organizations and to attain this, organizations are called upon to improve on the effectiveness of their work. Effectiveness can be achieved when managers with multiple intelligence are present in the organization. This is because such managers are the ones who understand challenges of the employees. Some of the challenges which employees go through are the ability to cope with massive and rapid changes in the organization. The managers also are called upon to be creative so as to drive innovation.

The employees may also face a challenge of managing a large amount of information and this means that the managers have to use the right tactics in order to help employees in understanding information. The organization is also constantly faced with the challenge of ensuring that it has made better use special talents among employees within a workforce which is highly diverse. His organization has the responsibility of identifying the future leaders of the organization and helping them to develop and grow. The application of MI theory provide an evidence based approach in learning and teaching which greatly helps in planning and delivering of the school, curriculum in an effective way.

Utilizing the MI-focused educational approach students will be encouraged because students are supported and given motivation in their learning which subsequently improved their performance in an inclusive learning environment.Students can be helped to learn through this approach by the use of multiple intelligence strategies. A person has the potential of having seven abilities but people tend to succeed 2 to 3 areas and they struggle with the others.Identify specific methods you would utilize with your students to identify their multiple intelligences. These areas are logical mathematical intelligence, linguistic intelligence, music intelligence bodily- kinetic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, interpersonal intelligence and spatial intelligence.

In helping students learn their areas of intelligences, a teacher has to provide a large quantity of information to students to help student be exposed to the changing and new information (Mackintosh, 1998, p 78)The information has to be arranged in various levels depending on their difficulty. Variety of teaching methods has to be used in order to meet the needs of all the students. The teacher has to identify instances of unusual curiosity in very student. In introducing multiple intelligence to students, a teacher should first provide students with objectives for the lesson which will include the need for students to understand the theory of multiple intelligence by Howard Gardner.

The students will also be required to compare MI theory with other traditional theories of intelligence and finally on the exploration of MI theory for the society. The evolution which a teacher can use is examining class participation and development of ideas in relation to the theory of MI (Truch, 1993, p 35).The method which can be recommended for all ages in determination intelligence is through the use of modern method vs. Mental age. This method is known as the intelligent -quotient. This method considers the mental age and the chronological age by the use of a Standard – Binet Intelligence scale.
