My Professional Growth As Scholars In Curriculum And Instruction Program

My personal philosophy on teaching is that teaching is both an art and science. According to William Butler, education is not pail filling but fire lighting (Famous quotes,  1998-2010). In my view, though education is filling the pail as well as lighting of the flame. The education art lights fire. The students get to best learn the things they cherish. It is essential, unending, and powerful to show children how to appreciate learning. Nonetheless, for one to be effective in this task the knowledge ought to be passedscientifically that can be termed as filling the pail.

It is my belief that students love learning and that students have the capability of grasping any elementary school material with scientific help. As a teacher, my goal is to have clear standards, evaluate the students against the set standards, and continue iterating learning until the levels of mastery are arrived at in all reasonable cases. In my profession, I cannot say that I have encountered a bad student. It is my belief that elementary school children are all keen and are at liberty to an environment that is supportive and nurturing. Generally, I belief that every child deserves the best support and efforts by the instructor to learn. Additionally, the instructor is obliged in finding ways for students to gain mastery.

My philosophy is acting in children service. I strive to offer to them a learning skeleton of essential standards and add flesh to it with the most stimulating, and striking humanity achievements in various fields of study. It is my conviction that it is the duty of an instructor to provide the students with the fundamentals and the catalysts, tools, andopportunities for exploring greater reason.

My philosophy has changed to concentrating to students and trying to amend the content for them to comprehend. Before the program, I thought that becoming a better teacher one needed to understand lecturing; however I have come to understand becoming a better teacher calls for understanding of the students. It is my belief that students can learn from their peer. It was a learning experience I can transfer to my country of origin because there are no collaborative activities.

In this learning setting, I experienced a significant professional growth.  I benefited considerably in working with a cohort. There was plenty to learn concerning higher learning, as well as basic education. English is a second language and working with cohort helped me significantly in escaping the challenging project. For instance, when writing curriculum, working as a group helped me greatly to understand how to go about it.

In this program, most of the topics are beneficial and emotional. The topics helped to get in-depth thought about education. The books used in the topics along with the articles were very useful. As a person, the experience helped into becoming a better person rather than just a good teacher. In this program, it can be noted that one does not only think about education but also think about the world. It helped me think about the challenges of the education sector back in my country.

Every day in my student teaching experience I learn something new. I made adjustments to my daily lesson plans. As time went on in my first period class, I jotted down what needed to be done differently in the coming classes. At times when lecturing I found myself stopping to explain a concept that I had assumed that the students were aware of which was not the case. At was sometimes energized and aggravated on seeing the progress or lack of progress of the students.

Most of the times I used pretest for seeing the ideas that the students were aware of or not aware of regarding topics to be studied later. When teaching the subjects I would informally assess the learning of the students. These were done through oral questioning and pop quizzes to ensure that students learned the content. On getting to the formal test at the end, some students performed well whereas others never showed good performance. This helped in evaluating the students and determining those who needed extra attention.

During the experience, I believe that my education philosophy has not changed considerably. My education philosophy entails establishing a positive environment whereby students feel comfortable to be themselves and learn in their own way. Second it comprises specific values and understandings that I want the students to get before departure of the class. This will help them appreciate history, see the relevance of history today and have respect for their classmates as well as instructors. I have come to appreciate that my aim to have students have respect to their classmates and teachers may be more difficult to attain than originally expected.

As a teacher and learner at the same time, I have had the opportunity of teaching a variety of lessons and also interact with students, parents, and fellow teachers and other subordinate staff. I can now reflect on these events. By reflecting on my students teaching experiences, I could identify both weak and strong areas of competencies. I found it hard to determine one of my strongest and weakness areas. This was because there were various competencies in which I have both weaknesses and strengths. Nonetheless, I feel that my strongest competences are students’ enabler and reflective practitioner while the weak competencies are a leader and professional regarding involvement and content expert, which entail the way of presenting information.

As I feel a sense of accomplishment reflecting on my strong areas of competence, I also feel the same as I look back on my weak points. This is because I could recognize my weak points and improving them.

I learned many things in the course of the program that I wish to utilize in the time to come. I observed the type of teacher I would strive to be and the type I would not like to be. In addition I was possible to reflect on my lesson as well as the evaluations completed by my cooperating supervisors, instructors, and I in making adjustments that can be implemented immediately or in the future. Though I struggled in some occasions and succeeded in the next, it was possible to learn from the different occasions. During the program, I observed, taught, planned, and reflected. It is my hope that through all these experiences, I can one day be the type of teacher who inspired me in choosing this type of work for life.

In the future, I want to transfer all the experiences and what I have learned to my home country. I also want to use the acquired skills and knowledge to help a child acquire education in a better environment back home. I would write a proposal to the home government giving them ideas on some of the best ways in which the curriculum could be restructured for the benefit of the students.
