Race and Gender

Social and gender are social constructions as well as realities socially. This means that race and gender play a great role in the society in creation of different groups of people with different social status.

Socialization can be described as the unequal distribution of power and resources amongst individuals and groups. This means that distribution is not random but follows a certain pattern and structure. The major factors contributing in the inequality in the entire globe is race and gender.

Since the time of imperialism and the conquest of the America’s some changes have occurred and therefore those dominating today are not only viewed to be higher but also better in the social ranking.

The concept of race is seen to come up as a way of reconciling freedom and slavery. This is because not only the Africans were slaves but also the Asians. This also created some distinction between those who had the white slave owners and the other races. The whites could enslave the others because they were viewed to be more knowledgeable than the others. Races have led to people to different groups of people been viewed different; some have been tagged poor and people who can’ do anything for themselves but only depending on others for survival.

Gender is an issue in many areas on the globe. There has been discrimination among the women folk. They are viewed as lesser beings and given a different treatment from the rest of the crew. For example in some communities the ladies are not allowed to work and the national jobs are not distributed equally between men and women.

In some regions also access to education is not equal between men and women. Men are seen to be worthy to be educated than the women. This has affected their productivity in the society and they have remained helpless.
