Social, political, legal, and technological challenges that face organizations in today’s changing environment

In today’s business environment, organizations face social, technological, legal, and political challenges (Johnson & Roberts, 2009). Advancements in technology occur rapidly. Organizations must respond fast to adopt modern technology, in order to offer services that are relevant, cost-effective, and compatible with social needs (Kotter, 1990). Technological revolution affects organizations through the cost of innovations in information, communications and transport sectors. In relation to social challenges, people exhibit dynamic differences in lifestyles, opinions, and taste preferences. These are social factors that organizations consider in designing services and products. Political and legal challenges include trade barriers, regional trading blocs, and trade barriers and business laws such intellectual property rights.

In view of the challenges, organizational leadership must implement changes to avoid regressive or inflexible, in development. Conscious, new leaders take into account the knowledge that modern organizations are dynamic and that no single method is effective for management at all times. Therefore, leadership should incorporate constant change in the organization so that the people embrace the desire for change and avoid resistance (Bimber & Flanagin, 2012). Globalization, telecommunications, cultural diversity, and social responsibility (public consciousness) are the driving force for change, in organizations. Telecommunications continue to make the world flat, while the diversity of people creates the difference in values, expectations, and opinions. Organizations are becoming global competitors, and social responsibility requires that organizations remain socially responsive.
