Virtue of Justice

Justice comes from a Latin word jus. The meaning of the word jus is “right”.  Justice thus is the constant will to give each person what him /her deserves. There are different kinds of justice which are the foundation of the society life. The main relations of the justice towards the structure of the society are three. The first relation is between the individuals; the second relation is that of the social whole and the individual person and lastly is the relationship of the social whole and how is related to the individual, (Adeney, 1995).

There are four cardinal virtues namely justice, moderation, courage, and wisdom. In addition, there are other three virtues which total them to seven. Unlike other virtues, justices differ because it is not a natural virtue. Since it is one of the virtues of the will, virtue of justice differs from other virtues because it has to do with what is right and regulates human beings with respect to how they relate, (Adeney, 1995).

Virtue of justice is important in the role of nursing. Since rights and obligation goes together, a nurse manager has to practice virtue justice in his/her duties. The nurse manager has to provide equality and also provide what the society expects from his services in return with what he expects to get. While practicing the virtue of justice, one should understand that there is a debt owing somewhere and thus need to take responsibility. To complete a meaningful social structure, one needs to understand his relation with the society and provide what he is expected by the society, (Adeney, 1995).
