There were three main writing assignments that I handled in this coursework: RA, DI and CCR. Of the three assignments, my best work was on the discipline investigation assignment.  The assignment not only enabled me to complete a course assignment, but also investigate further on the career path that I desire to take in the future. I am proud of the DI assignment as it shed more light on my career path and the choices I have.  Other than completing the assignment, I learned more on my ideal career and what is expected on those wishing to join the medical technology discipline. The DI assignment was, therefore, enlightening on the essential preparations for my career.

The assignment also helped me sharpen my writing skills to a scholarly level. The assignment involved writing about a career choice by making several drafts until I write the final copy. The assignment thus allowed me to collect information on my course of choice, organize my ideas and write them down. I also completed the assignment in drafts, constantly modifying and giving additional information to earlier parts of the assignments. Writing a draft is one of the surest ways to ensure that a writer includes all relevant information on a piece of writing.  I also like the assignment, the most because it had the least grammatical errors. I managed to present a paper that is adequately revised and edited. Information from one paragraph to another connected and made sense.

The DI assignment improved from one draft to another until I had a final copy. In my first attempt to write the assignment,  I had several errors with regards to the content of the assignment. In the conclusion paragraph there is the statement “after interviewing, with Mr. Dinh, I am confident…”. This statement is ambiguous as it suggests that Dinh was part of the interviewer’s team. In the final draft, this ambiguous sentence is restructured to be “Dinh also revealed that learning is a continuous process in this field”. Other sentences such as “nurse and physicians with whom he deals a lot every day is ambiguous and makes no chronological sense.  In the first draft for instance, I failed to give a brief overview of the topic discipline investigation. This left the readers confused as the paper lacked background information regarding the subject discussed in the paper. In my second draft, I got an opportunity to introduce the assignment by briefly describing the topic. The final draft demonstrates my ability to self-reflect on the writing process. I laid the ground work for the topic discipline investigation then I directed the reader to the focus of the paper. I, therefore, managed to explain to readers why I was conducting a DI and why I had an interest in the medical field.

The first draft also had several errors with regards to sentence structure, grammar and tense. For instance, the first paragraph “is someone asks why I choose clinical laboratory…”. This sentence had a fragment error. It was best if I could restructure the question in phrase form instead of a question.  I also had several instances of mixing plural and singular verbs e.g. use of are instead of is. The first draft also had problems of tense as I mixed past and present tense in the same assignment. When writing an assignment, it is vital to determine whether the content is to be done in the present or past tense. The first draft also had wordy sentences, which made the flow of information difficult to follow. I also made a direct approach to the assignment by posing questions asked in the interview rather than re-structuring and reporting the responses given by Steve Dinh The second draft saw me utilize the feedback given, by my instructor, to modify and correct the paper. The second draft was thus more detailed, informative and accurate than the first draft.  In areas where the instructors told me to give descriptive information e.g. under the sub topic role and responsibilities, I ensured that I exhaustively described Dinh’s duties and responsibilities. I also had the opportunity to critically self reflect on the writing process of the entire paper.

This enabled me make proper rhetorical choice. I, for instance, organized my thoughts and established what I was to write under each sub topic.  The final drafty demonstrates who I successfully organized what to write in each sub topics.  First, I acknowledged that the assignment required I report on the findings gathered after Steve’s interview. I, therefore, organized the data gathered from Steve and used it to report the DI.  I began with a detailed background of Steve’s career path, the likability of the job, pay and benefits. On the roles and responsibilities, I summarized the interview responses into a cohesive and logical sub topic labeled roles and responsibilities. The final draft indicates Dinh’s technical and administrative duties. Each paragraph contains a new focal point to the assignment.  Some of the main ideas include the skills and qualification, challenges in the career and job opportunities for medical technologists. I also organized the paper to have the topic communication skills and its relevance to a medical technologist. In this segment, I focused on the importance of writing and reading skills. I conclude the final draft with a detailed conclusion that summarized the content written in the paper.

Throughout the three drafts, I managed to develop and strengthen the thesis statement of the assignment. A thesis statement sheds light on the focus of the paper. In the first draft, the thesis statement was shallow, and the instructor noted that I should strengthen it. The second and third draft saw increased efforts to strengthen the thesis statement further by demonstrating why DI is a vital process.  I also managed to integrate different texts throughout the assignment. In the first draft for instance, I did not include any scholarly text to support various ideas I put forth in the papers.  In the second and the third drafts, whoever, I included numerous texts and scholarly materials to support the ideas I shed on the DI assignment.  Primary and secondary sources were used to analyze and evaluate data used in the assignment. A detailed reference page is also provided at the end of assignment three. This segment was not available in the first draft which meant information contained in the first draft was not as valid as information contained in draft 3.

Dear readers, the writing process of the discipline investigation for a medical technology was enlightening. From draft one through to draft three, I have learned and acquired novel knowledge on how to write to write quality scholarly papers.  I have learned how to use proper sentence structures and grammar; I have also learned how to source for primary and secondary sources that will guarantee my paper is valid. It is vital to use peer reviewed articles that are recent so as to have up to date information.  Readers, I have come far with my writing process; from poor writing and expression of ideas to exemplary writing as indicated in the final draft.

Yours Sincerely,
