Introduction
Discrimination has been in the society for as long as man exists. There different types of discrimination that makes some groups feel superior while others feel inferior. Race discrimination is a common practice in different countries. Martin Luther Jr. is one of the great leaders who fought for equality among people. In teaching about equality and the concept of discrimination, Jane Elliot, a teacher divided her class by their eye color. The documentary helps the class learn on the issue of discrimination which has been a great problem in the society for many years.
Discussion
A Class Divided is one of those documentaries that one would ever wish to watch once more irrespective of his or her race. Evidence suggests that everyone is prone to a given level of discrimination. Teacher Elliot divides the class by eye colors and helps them learn how discrimination affects people in the society. One day she divided the class into two groups. One group was market to be superior while the other was inferior. The next day, it was vice verse and the idea was repeated. This documentary is informative although to some point one might think it’s persuasive. The non-Americans have always different types of discrimination due to their skin color. Elliot uses the concept of skin color in teaching how people face discrimination in day to day activities, (Peters, 1987).
The information presented in the documentary is relevant to anyone. The author tries to teach people on the differences that exist in the society and how one feels when discriminated. After watching the film, a person hopefully gets to understand how people should live and stay with harmony. Elliot helps students learn how to treat others irrespective of their race, gender, or ethnicity. A Class Divided film helps individuals who are not discriminated in their life develop a clear picture on how other people feel. The dominant group always feels threatened by the minority group, and that is why they develop discrimination, (Peters, 1987).
The argument presented in this film is that the dominant group should not discriminate the minority group. All people are equal and have the same capability to perform and accomplish things accordingly. It only requires a slight support and motivation for a given situation in order to develop a common ground. Elliot divides the class into two, and when she supports one group the other becomes inferior and vice versa. In general, all people are equal, and no one should discriminate the other. The film helps dominant group get a clear picture of how those discriminated feel in their daily life, (Peters, 1987).
I believe that the film maker had a vital point that he wanted to drive to the society. Everyone is prone to a certain discrimination aspect that affects daily life. He tries to explain how discrimination affects people thus no one should discriminate another. The film is a good lesson for those who does not face prejudice in their life because they get to understand how other people feel and live under discrimination, (Peters, 1987).
Conclusion
In conclusion, discrimination of a group affects how the group does its activities. Without support, anybody may feel discriminated something that will affect his life. All people are equal, and discrimination should not have any position in man’s life, (Peters, 1987).
